Good things about today:
1. Phone interview = done. They finally called about twenty to two with huge apologies because they were having phone troubles. Which is fine, I figured logically that's probably what it was. But I freak out about these things. It's what I do.

2. So my sister and her friends and their "Doctor Who Club" is expanding their horizons to "Geekfest." They are a sponsored campus organization as of next year, and are getting FUNDING for their club. They're talking about getting video games in the library (like, for rent) and their slogan is going to be, "Why go Greek when you can go Geek?" I love my sister.

3. Tomorrow I am working in the afternoon (good because I don't have so many hours next week), and also going to see my friends in Arcadia at Coe.
dramaturgy: ([Misc] Ben Whishaw.)
My brother just left for school for the first time in... oh. A week and a half. He better plan on coming home right after class, I work tonight.

I didn't get the bank job. It was just to be a teller, but I am going to phrase it that way because it sounds especially badass, like I was applying to perform a heist or something.

This icon still makes me happy. Hello, Ben Whishaw. ♥
dramaturgy: ([DW/T] Ten/Rose :D)
AHAHAHAHA My sister and her friends in the Doctor Who club at Coe are SO much cooler than the Coe Witches.

For April Fool's Day they gained entrance to all the buildings on campus and used dry erase markers to write BAD WOLF on all available surfaces, and put 'badwolf' as the username in lab computers. LOVE. She says next year they are putting up 'Vote Saxon' posters.

My sister is one of the coolest people I know.

That aside, today was a good day. I was up at stupid o'clock for the job interview, and it went pretty good. They're at the beginning of the interview process so it could be another week or two before I hear anything. Mom and I went to CR to fetch Gretchen for Easter, and that was pretty much it.

I had to change my shirt for church tonight, mom didn't think that the Community Party t-shirt was appropriate for a Good Friday service. And she is probably right.

I'm contemplating a layout change.

A couple of weeks ago I sent my resume to one of the banks here in town because they were looking to fill a part time teller position. They just called to set up an interview.

This would be nice because a) it is even closer to my house than Movie Gallery was, by about a block \o/ b) it is 25 hours a week and c) it shouldn't interfere too heavily with the schedule I keep at Lane Bryant. \o/!!! Of course, I don't have the job yet by a longshot and I hate interviews so I hope I don't blow it, but it would be really nice. Since I'm probably not going back to school next year either.

Anyway. Yeah, anxiety pile, heyoooo.
dramaturgy: ([SA] Everything we touch is dust.)
So I went to work even though I felt a little blaaargh because I figured I'd be in back doing freight anyway, and I was, but I still didn't feel great. And then I started to feel nauseous. And then I felt even worse, and to make the long story short, I threw up. My projectile vomiting aim needs work. They sent me home, just in case. I think it's more likely that I ate something bad than it being the flu or anything. I do feel like crap but it's allergies crap and not viral crap.

Blah. *die*
dramaturgy: ([DW/T] Does it need saying?)
So when I went in to Movie Gallery I was only planning on giving my schedule at Lane Bryant for next week just in case they decided they wanted to put me on the schedule next week, and Linda told me our DM got fired. Over Power Play. This fucking Power Play is screwing up people's lives, shit. She asked me if I wanted to be on the schedule and I told her no, so I gave her my key and quit. It was all very cordial but seriously. That job went to shit pretty quickly.

I am officially in over my head.
dramaturgy: ([DW/T] Harveywallbanger.)
1. Having had several chances to see Twilight repeatedly (that's right, someone finally went to Movie Gallery and picked up her copy) I've had the chance to see some of the subtle and not so subtle things that were done. XD I can't wait for New Moon when they go to Volterra. Because my family hates it when I go I'VE BEEN THERE and points. (It's like the only thing that I can point out in the OotP film is the Swiss Re building.)

2. Speaking of Harry Potter films, Ciaran Hinds for Aberforth Dumbledore probably made me happier than it should have.

3. I'm into the 4th season of Queer as Folk. Just thought you'd like to know.

4. My dad is home in the middle of the day because we bought a ~*new washing machine*~ and it is being delivered today. My mother is more pleased than anything.

5. Last Thursday another CSA worked with me in my four and a half hours (my only four and a half hours) to "make sure something got sold." We did not sell shit. We have just decided not to stress about it. Except this week, I have NO hours -- about only four people do. I.e. the people who work peak hours, like Friday and Saturday night. If I was still working Friday and Saturday nights, I'm sure I could sell Powerplay too.

6. Today two BIG ENVELOPES came in the mail. I was hoping against hope that they were for me, but no.

7. And now my dad is in here watching Twilight. With me. He is strangely intrigued. I can't wait until we get to the SPARKLY VAMPIRES part.
dramaturgy: ([SPN] Way of the gun.)
My big shock about this article should not be SHE IS MARRIED TO LIAM NEESON?

>_>

I should go to bed because I have to go back to work in the morning but I am wound. o_o I helped with inventory -- it was supposedly a partial inventory, except it was basically everything in the store except for tops. And the guys from the scanning company (go with me on this one) scanned 6800 units, and Michelle said the full inventory last year was around 7000.

Grr.

[Poll #1366559]

I feel like there's an obvious answer to that first question but screw me if I know what it is. I'd ask my dad but. Long story short, now at Movie Gallery if you aren't selling shit then your hours are going to be cut, and we were told that if we didn't like it we could quit. I'm not selling shit, I don't have any hours left to cut, and I don't so I am. But I don't want to quit outright if I can help it because I don't really want to be a drama queen about this (although it's tempting) and also I don't want to quit until I have something else at least in the pan, because if I don't I might not end up with anything and then I'll be in arrears on student loan payments and I'll have ulcers and a mental breakdown and yes.

On the QAF front, I love Brian Kinney probably more than I should. I just needed something new to watch. x_x (Well, new to me.)
dramaturgy: ([Rent] Stop your pain)
I should flock this, you know, in case anyone at corporate at the Movie Gallery is cruising LJ looking for bitching employees to fire or some crazy stalker is going to come shoot me in the face. And even if they were, they would be doing me a favor.

Today I missed the Big Cheese, but according to J he was pleased with how the store looks which is apparently something -- not to mention a good something since we have all been cleaning like freaks. But they guy, turns out, is the manager's boss's boss, and so then I saw my manager's boss, which makes me nervous enough.

You know what, fuck it, I don't want to go through the details. I am just going to bitch. We started selling ~*POWER PLAY*~ also known as ~*LET'S FUCK OVER EVERYONE WHO WORKS IN A SMALL STORE*~. It's supposed to work like Netflix where you buy a package monthly (as in it is a MONTHLY CHARGE, this is important) and for each package you get a certain number of points which then you use to rent movies and games at a discounted rate. Except it's not like Netflix. Because with Netflix, it comes to your house, it really is unlimited, and Netflix probably doesn't face the problem of "What if the customers NEVER EVER BRING THESE BACK?" which is less of a big deal for New Release DVDs if we have 24503968 copies of them, but games? Generally speaking, the most copies of those we have at a time are three or four. And that's if it's going to be a really popular game.

So we have to sell these packages, and when I came in at two none had been sold. So I had three and a half hours, fine. Except Thursday afternoons are dead. I handed out the pamphlets and explained the program fees etc to a lot of people and just about everyone LIKED the idea but they said, "Not today" or "I have to talk it over with my husband/wife" and I said okay, that's fine, we'd be happy to sign them up whenever they were ready! *SMILESMILESMILE*

Well five rolls around and I have to call the DM and leave her a voicemail that we hadn't sold any. I wasn't exactly looking forward to it, but short of selling one to myself I didn't know what I was supposed to do. THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH YOU CAN DO.

So she called back and reamed me out and said to push that, and presales as well. I told her that I had pushed, and offered presales, but nobody's buying. And then about ten minutes later (not even) I got a call from Linda saying WE NEED TO PUSH.

I AM WORKING ON IT I PROMISE YOU.

And then Linda came in because apparently if we don't have one by the end of the day, hours are going to be cut. I don't know how they plan to do that, but a good place to start would be having REALISTIC GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR THE PRODUCT. People are not going to want to start putting a monthly charge on their credit card or account without talking to their spouse about it, and also, I am not going to sell the Power Play to a ten year old who is renting it on their parent's account. It's just not going to happen. I can give them the literature and say to talk to their parent about it (wait, what? OH I DID THAT ALREADY THANK YOU). This is not going to catch on, not right away, and probably not here in DeWitt. Yes there are savings on rentals involved but if they aren't sure if they're going to have the money month-to-month, they would rather pay that extra money in cash. And if they're going to ream people who aren't responsible, honestly, that just pisses me off.

I am so over this job.

I didn't mention this because it ended up falling through but at Lane Bryant one of the assistant managers was applying for a job elsewhere and if she got it and took it then my manager there wanted to know if I was interested in maybe filling the position. And honestly, I would have had to say yes.

I need to get into grad school. NEED.

And now I am going to go mix myself a drink and look for something to eat before SPN comes on.
dramaturgy: ([Misc] I am never going to work again)
I am really hoping that by the time I go to work at 2 the new DM has been there and gone, because if he hasn't, I'm probably going to light him on fire on accident or something equally embarrassing.

Movie Gallery has suddenly turned into a high pressure job and I don't like that. Wah.

In six hours, it'll be over and I'll be back home. That is my comfort.
dramaturgy: ([Office] Congratulations universe.)
It is RAINING/THUNDERING and I am going to have to walk to work.

So last night... probably about 11 or 11:30, the power went our which means that I laid here in the dark. I curled up in bed and read by candlelight and then it came back on about 2:30. It was kind of chilly at that point. >_> I probably should have gone to sleep, but I was getting to near the end of A Lion Among Men. I hope he's planning to write more, because I cannot get enough of the Wicked series. I can't even really pinpoint what it is I love so much about his writing, I just know that I love to read it. (Liir/Candle/Trism OT3, y/n?)

Moira Kelly is on Heroes. GUYS. THAT'S WHERE MANDY WENT. SHE DIDN'T GO TO MANDY LAND SHE WENT TO HOMELAND SECURITY AND CHANGED HER NAME. >_>
Dan Byrd + Sylar = LOVE that is all I will say about that. XD

So I agreed to pick up a shift tonight because Ashley wasn't feeling well last night and didn't think that she'd feel any better today, and I need the hours. But I had to talk to my brother and see when he could have the car back. He said, very martyr like, "I can be back by 3:30. Of course... I'll have to miss rehearsal..." and then he left.

WELL you know what? If you hadn't killed the car, we wouldn't be having this problem. The play is extra. It is not for a grade. SACRIFICES, IT'S TIME TO MAKE SOME.

Unfortunately, working tonight means that I can't go to my high school's pops concert. Which is not such a downfall in itself. BUT I read in the newspaper that the concert will be concluding with La Vie Boheme. From Rent. I just. I don't know HOW. Are they going to skip all the verses? And now I won't be able to find out. Woe.

Behind the cut is the lyrics to LVB, with all the things I doubt we'd be able to mention at my alma mater in bold. I'm just guessing with where they could start. I'm imagining it will end before where I do and not include dialogue, but I figured as long as I was doing it... )

And if you can't mention mucho masturbation, why even bother.

So I remember what one thing I wanted to rant and rail about last night was when I went to the bank. (I bet you can already see where this is going.) Yes. Today was pay day. And I already typed this out once when Firefox decided to crash and not save a draft. So I will give you the teal deer version.

It is hard to save money when you are barely making enough to cover your student loans. Just saying.

So did you know that when you work at a video store, you MAGICALLY get an encyclopedic knowledge of every movie ever made, ever? Yes! You do! And you are also expected to be able to name it EXACTLY from vague descriptions such as, "This guy's an assassin... and he does a job, and they were shooting at him..."

Well spank me and hand me over to my mother! I know exactly what movie you're talking about!

OH NO WAIT, I DON'T, BECAUSE I'M NOT A MIND READER.

I would bet my paycheck (itty bitty though it may be) that there are a large percentage of movies about assassins where in the guys get shot at. Just saying.

I wouldn't have really minded it this afternoon, except it happened with four different people in THREE hours and the one guy who gave me the above example asked me three damn times.

And people should just use their damn heads already. Nights in Rodanthe doesn't come out until the 10th, it says so on the board behind me. Twilight came out in theatres in NOVEMBER and is still making money, so no, it's not out on DVD yet. The Friday the 13th remake comes out on Friday the 13th of February. IN THEATERS. GFD people.

The slot to return movies is RIGHT THERE. IT'S RIGHT THERE. What's so damn hard about putting the DVDs in the slot? We have a goddamn SIGN that says "Return your DVDs in the drop slot!" with an arrow pointing TO the slot. YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY MISS THE DAMN SLOT.

Don't ask me why the outside drop slot is closed. It says "Drop slot for after business hours only." If you don't want to show your face because your movies are late and you're afraid I'll remember your face and shun you forever because of it, send your kid in. That's what every other freak does.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. I hope I can get drugs.

Sooo I haven't written for ages, but [livejournal.com profile] thinkatory was here for a week (okay, weather and roads were bad on Saturday so it was really eight days) and we were being lazy sods, so it's all good.

Yesterday I was supposed to work in Davenport, but they called about two o'clock and said that they didn't need me. Of course, they couldn't call before I'd straightened my hair. *SIGH*

So instead of working, I spent my day catching up on my TV, and then I ended up watching the entire first season of Traveler. Which wasn't hard, there are only eight episodes in the entire season, but I digress. It was awesome, I get bummed out when awesome shows are cancelled. Then again, when I read the closing interview with the creator talking about how the entire thing would end, I'm kind of glad it didn't end, because it ended up with my two favorites dead and the other main character I was kind of eh about the whole time alive.

See? Characters I like are immediately doomed. Doomed doomed doomed.

I don't work today either, unless someone calls, but I don't foresee that. Blah. I know I was working crazy hours before Christmas, but I hope the hours don't drop back too much.

My mom was home yesterday sick, and she called me early this morning to come get her because apparently she wasn't as recovered as she thought she was. But now she is moving about, taking down Christmas decorations. Then again, considering how many days of high school I missed because I just didn't want to go, I'm probably not good to judge.

Two more schools to apply to and freak out about.
dramaturgy: ([Misc] <3333)
I haven't updated since before Christmas, so happy belated Christmas/Winter Holiday of your choice.

sal;kfj sorry watching series four Doctor Who and Rose just appeared on the screen behind the Doctor. (Watching Midnight. It also has Colin Morgan being a woobie, as he does.)

Christmas was good. The food was delicious, my family was great, and gifts were a hit. I got some DVDs that I'd put on my list, a computer game called Mystery in London that's unraveling the Jack the Ripper mystery (so naturally I am on board). I got a new straightening iron for my hair, jeans, and a gift card to Lane Bryant that I can use when our 60% Fashion Week rolls around. \o/ My grandmother also got me a Snuggie. Yes. Those fleece blankets with sleeves in it. Those things that my dad and I make fun of on late night TV. We found many alternative uses for it, including a bathrobe, being a monk, and playing Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. I got a lot of books too! Inkdeath, and A Lion Among Men (which means I'll actually have to read Son of a Witch), and Tales of Beedle the Bard, as well as a book about Venice, and Mental_Floss's History of the World, and books two through four of the Temeraire series. I bought the first book at the same time as I bought Game of Thrones, and we all saw how that turned out.

The one thing I didn't get was Spring Awakening tickets, so I will probably find the dough to go, if by myself. I don't really want to go by myself but I can't really pay for someone to go with me and I wouldn't ask somebody else to cough up that money just so I wouldn't have to be alone. :\ Because there is no way I am missing the tour. :|

I wasn't supposed to work today but Lane Bryant called me in. Bah. But since I'm taking a week off for Kitty to be here, I should probably be taking all the hours people can give me.

One more chapter of [livejournal.com profile] fathersandsons to go. I was working on some icons for [livejournal.com profile] valyrian_forged but I don't think that the set is going to be done before the first game is done. I'll probably just have to post as many as I have done and then post the finished set later.

One of five grad school applications is in. \o/ Of course I have to send other stuff, but it's a place to start.

ETA: Although I can't remember who I sent my GRE scores to and how much money it's going to cost me to resend them to everyone. ;_;

So at Lane Bryant, our 'Right Fit' pants are sized somewhat differently. There are three colors, red, blue, and yellow to denote different cuts based on body type. Red is average, blue cinches in at the waist for women who have larger hips than they do waist, and yellow (me!) is for people who are smaller in the butt and thighs and have sagging issues with regular jeans. And they go by numbers, 1-8, corresponding with 1 as a 14, 2 as a 16, 3 as an 18, etc. I am ALWAYS happy to tell people about the sizing and help them find the right style for them, because I love my Right Fit jeans and pants. BUT me giving you the schpiel, help, and smiles is not going to do you any good if you don't LISTEN TO ME. I know I've only worked here about six weeks, but I do know some things!

Also, to the one lady I had today, why did you ask me to explain, and then answer your cell phone in the middle of my speech, and then proceed to indicate for me to keep going (which I awkwardly did) and hold a conversation with the person on the other side? Seriously.
