WELL I am here and that is about all there is to say about that for the moment. I got all my stuff into my room, made a Wal-Mart run for things that I absolutely could not live without until tomorrow, and then spent the rest of the night making it look like someone lives here instead of it just being a storage facility. That's the trick.

This is a ~ghetto fabulous room, make no mistake.

Tomorrow I have shit to do, so I should go to bed, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that I wasn't dead. Yay! I love not being dead. My peeps got me a desk in the office with the window which was the BFD last spring. I'm excited, it'll be like an office instead of a box.

I had a Terror in the shower, which is what I call it when I have those moments of OH GOD I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS I WANT TO GO HOME but it's already too late. I'm actually kind of relieved to be back. I won't say home because that word has a really complicated emotional meaning, but, it is where I am going to school and living for the time being.

Bleeeeeeeagh Pennsylvania is still a huge fucking state. Just wanted to let you all know I'm not dead yet.

(ETA: Noooo not a picture of the Doctor strapped in to the Pandorica. *WEEP*)

BRB, guys, driving to Pennsylvania.

Tennessee was fun. I'm glad I got to go with [livejournal.com profile] thinkatory and meet [livejournal.com profile] raven22 (again) and [livejournal.com profile] illegal_midget (for the first time!). Court is easily one of the most hilarious people I know and that is so much better in person. Especially when there is Skins and moonshine to be had. Despite our missed connection on the way back and therefore getting back to Milwaukee a little later than expected, it was a good trip with relatively few problems.

Oh my lord last day of the music meme! Hurrah! I suck at this, this should have been over a week ago. I don't know if I'm going to do another one right away again. There's a SPN one making the rounds, and a Harry Potter one, as well as a general TV and a Shakespeare one. Any opinion, flisties?

The main thing is that I have assignments on my syllabus and am going to send in my textbook requisition form today. \o/ Yay. So here's the last meme.

Day 30 - Your favourite song at this time last year
This time last year I was... well, in much the same state as I am now, although last year when I was freaking out it was over grad school and mostly where was I going to live while I was there. Now I am freaking out about whether or not I'm going to be an effective teacher.

Anyway. I got really into the band Trading Yesterday and their CD "More Than This" because someone had made a Castiel fanvid out of this song, and I heard it so hard. Like the couple times I have managed to actually RP Cas with someone besides Kitty, it has been journal titles material. The fanvid sadly no longer seems to be available, but you can listen to this awesome song, called "Revolution":

That's really all I have to say about that.

List. OMG it's done!! )
dramaturgy: ([Glee] Jesse + Rachel.)
WELL it's been a long few days. Last you heard from me I was... wow, okay, [livejournal.com profile] roseanna was still with me in Long Island. I sent her home and then the following week I came home myself. Thursday I started driving home, I stayed overnight in Ohio, and made it back on Friday afternoon. Saturday was William's first birthday so my mom, Gretchen, and I went to see Cat and William. He's such a corker. She and the father's family are still having custody issues, and I think she's supposed to be back in court today. The less I say about that, the better, I think.

Otherwise, my sister is living in an apartment in Cedar Rapids with Abby for the summer and she's going to Japan in the fall, and my brother is still doing nothing with his life. I swear, I am this close to 911ing Dr. Phil on his ass, mostly because I think if I 911'd on Cat and Chris, I think it would be sticking my nose in. Oh, I'd forgotten how nice it was to not be the center of all this drama. (Although at least this drama involves things that I actually care about, unlike Who Gets The Desks In The Office With A Window.)

But that's neither here nor there.

Now I'm going to talk about fannish things. In here there are spoilers for finales of The Mentalist, Private Practice, Grey's, and Supernatural, recent eps of Glee and Doctor Who, and the Heroes cancellation. Maybe this will get me in the mood to review the six or so shows I have seen since I posted my last review on Theatre Geekery. )

Phew. That was long. But I think I said my piece.
dramaturgy: ([Heroes] Peter + Emma.)
Soooo here I am in Detroit. It is every bit as dreary as you would imagine January in Detroit to be, but luckily I get to sit here in the terminal instead of be out and about. My flight to New York doesn't leave until 5:45 so I am sitting around.

My big suitcase was overweight by a whopping thirty-three pounds and then the lady at the desk forgot to charge me for it and my mom and I didn't realize it until we got almost to security. Oh well. Delta can do without my ninety bucks. (Sidenote: I am SO looking for a car when I get back.)

I have butterflies in my stomach -- that's what my mom called them, I actually just think I am REALLY hungry. It feels like... you know how if you swallow a pill but it feels like it didn't go all the way down? It feels like that. I had a late lunch and now I'm snacking on salted almonds (mm salted almonds) and I have a Dew, so I should be okay. Maybe. I guess we'll find out.

My mommy's so sweet. She wouldn't leave me until I got RIGHT to the start of the security line. She'd probably get onto the plane and buckle my seat belt for me if they'd let her.
dramaturgy: ([PR] Make it work.)
MAKE IT WORK has been my mantra this week. We made it work, and it did.

So since I just updated with little "oh we're here/there" remarks, here's a more detailed version of our trip east. I have pictures! Most were taken from the car window but they are pretty nice.

Click the cut for pictures and babbling about this that and the next thing. )

I don't know what to say about the orientations. They probably could have been half as long as they were but I enjoyed meeting the people in the theater department, even if I'd had my fill of forced socializing by mid-afternoon on Thursday. The people were all RAWR YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO HAVE ANY TIME TO DO ANYTHING EVER WE WILL EAT YOUR LIFE but seriously. I just can't wait to get into a routine and get settled.

I think I'm going to like it here. I am already trying to decide on what show to see for my birthday. XD
dramaturgy: ([PD] HUGS.)
Traveling is exhausting. We were in the car for twelve hours. I took pictures from the car, and Twittered the entire way. I'm not signed up for LoudTweet or anything but if you want to look, I am landwarsinasia over there.

This is kind of a skeevey hotel. Tomorrow will be better because it's a Holiday Inn Express. ... ~*~*~ XD

We were all kind of remedial and special today.

So today we are going to Pennsylvania.

I'm doing this.

Man. I am exhausterated (TAKE THAT, BUSH) but for my dime, Gaelic Storm is THE best show around. That said, I don't go see that many bands, and the venue I have now seen them twice in is very intimate -- I have no idea how many, but my guess has to be that it can't be seating THAT many people, I mean, small town Iowa opera house, hello.

[livejournal.com profile] phiremangston and her parents are so nice to put up with me for even that long. I was very nearly tempted into going to a midnight showing of Watchmen with her, but I kind of ran out of money. Oops. >_> All in the name of science! Okay that's a bald-faced lie, the only science that was going on was my brain chemistry every time I looked at the pipes player. I am SHAMELESS.

I was going to write about yesterday yesterday after it happened, but I kind of didn't, if you notice. I took an impromptu road trip to Coe to visit the Registrar and a couple of my professors, and also some friends. It just generally made me miss being an undergrad. My sister and her roommate played "The Doctor Who Fix-It Song" for me and I will undoubtedly be stealing it the second she gets home.

I am planning a music spam/blather post in the style of [livejournal.com profile] kaesa for sometime this weekend, because I think it's a good idea and I love sharing my music (and I love her sharing her music because she has a lot of stuff that is wonderful but I don't even think about looking for, i.e. DaVinci's Notebook).

Now I am babbling in general, so I should probably post this and think about collapsing into bed or something.
dramaturgy: (Last thing I have left)
Well, that took three hours longer than it should have.

Liz is a t00b. Bad things happen when she is away from her computer. For instance, she takes a wrong turn while leaving Trish's house, and instead of getting in I-74 West like she's supposed to, she ends up on I-65 North and she has no idea how. So, coming up with the mantra of, "Am fierce, smart, independent woman and I can find my way home with just this atlas!" she plans to follow I-65 North until she reaches I-80 at Chicago, which will take her to Moline and then Davenport and then home.

Then she makes an ungodly long excursion off the highway onto a six-laned road in a suburb of Chicago in search of a McDonalds so she could eat and runs a stoplight, nearly hits three cars, and fails to turn in a "right turn only" lane.

Then at approximately 8:30 she blows a tire and pulls over. She calls her mom, and mom and dad leave home immediately to come and get me. I spend the next hour in the car listening to "Dancing Through Life" in an attempt to make me happy and feeling semis whizz past me at 65+ miles an hour less than five feet away. An Illinois state trooper stopped and asked what the trouble was. I burst into tears and he is very sympathetic over the fact that I know nothing about cars and gives me a tissue. He starts to change the tire for me (yay) and my parents arrive. Tire gets changed and we have to jump the car because I killed the battery while wibbling and waiting for parents to arrive. Then we spend the next two hours on the backroads because my dad is a freak because my dad is incredibly wise to avoid the construction on I-80.

This is why I should be chained to my computer except for alotted times.

I think my LJ needs a change in layout. And my paid account runs out in ten days. ::makes note to send check::
dramaturgy: (Beacons OMG)
I'm updating from [livejournal.com profile] heathersy and [livejournal.com profile] duchessdollydot land and you're not. :P

I'm just t00bing around while Heather works. Today's the only day she'll have to work, though.

T00bing, t00bing, t00bing.

La la la.
