Jun. 14th, 2008 12:25 amSo, zombie apocalypse aside, it's looking pretty bad out there. I'm especially keeping an eye on Cedar Rapids. I have family who lives there (as far as I know they're all okay, my cousin and her hubby and babies live on pretty high ground so I think they're okay), I have friends there, and I attended college there. Even though I want to shake my fists at the city sometimes (like Quaker Oats - smells like scorched oatmeal!), the city of the five seasons (they say the fifth season is the season to enjoy them all, but I'm thinking the fifth should either be "construction" or "flood season") holds a special place in my heart.
kikithepirate has been working her hiney off with the Red Cross and sandbagging, god bless her, for the city and for the people who are worse off than she. My hat is off to her. Her posts about the flood have so far been public and she's got some video that she's shot of the 8th St. area, Mercy hospital, and the like. She also has a list of places that are looking for donations, etc. She just posted this picture, and it really upset me:

That's the downtown Dairy Queen. I have good memories of a run for dinner and ICE CREAM CAKE with
techie34 and
phiremangston. That is my Dairy Queen, damnit. THAT IS OUR DAIRY QUEEN.
(I'm 99% it is. Either way. DAIRY QUEEN, FOLKS.)
Rivers aren't supposed to crest until Monday and we're supposed to have more rain Sunday night. I still need a job, but it's looking kind of. Small. I mean, it's not looking small because I have a question about my student loan but nobody's going to be in the Fine Aid office to answer me, and. Things are just a mess right now.
