dramaturgy: (I'm going to hell.)
The high school variety show was pretty much like it usually is. Not much variety. To call it the chamber choir hour would have been incredibly appropriate. And the chamber choir itself was TERRIBLE. I laughed in my triumph: I shall consider it karma for never letting me in. The son of the choir director and speech teacher (they're married) fronted a band that played kicked the Counting Crows in the nuts by ruining "Mr. Jones" (::doesn't want to filk at all::) and made John Lennon roll in his grave with his less than spectacular rendition of "Imagine". There was a horrible terrible NOT GOOD AT ALL rendition of "Think of Me" and made me want to cry. The only things redeeming about the show was a band that did Red Hot Chili Peppers "Fortune Faded" with Creighton (EEEE he's so cute and he looks like the singer from Death Cab for Cutie) singing and Joe and Alex's skit. AGH. They were SO FUNNY I could hardly stand it. They did a skit that was oral tradition, and they played about three characters each.

Joe (as a knight): Hello! I am an errant knight!
Alex (as a guard): Don't you mean knight errant?
Joe: Well, no. I've come to ask for the princess's hand in marriage!
Alex: ... Just her hand?
Joe: ...No! All of her!
Alex (as the guard): Um. Do you want the gate?
Joe: ...No! I want the princess's hand in marriage!
Alex: Well, I'll have to ask the king. ... Oh your highness!
Joe: ::drops the cardboard sword, runs, puts on crown:: Yes?
Alex: There's an errant knight out here.
Joe (as the king): Don't you mean knight errant?
Alex: Well, no... He wants the princess's hand in marriage.
Joe: Just her hand?

And it went on and on like that. There was also the queen and princess, each denoted by different hats. XD I am SO glad they're going to Cornell next year. I've missed them way too much.

The other really good act was Daphne, who played an original composition of hers (and it was so good!), and a freshman named Nick who played "Only Hope" from A Walk to Remember, which of course made me think of the movie and [livejournal.com profile] walk_dem_bones, particularly the icon of his that is from that part of the movie. I should really invest $10 in that movie next time I go to Wal-Mart, I take it out of the library a lot. And of course Rachel sang, but she sang a song from The Pajama Game. If Broadway were a playground, The Pajama Game would be the musical that everyone beats up because they know it's an easy target. Of course she also breezed right past me when I was talking to Alex (B, not H). She used to be such a sweetheart, but she's really diva'd out now. Of course, if I had her voice, I would be too.

If there's one image I will never forget, it is Andrew Kennedy in tight pleather pants.

Oh yes, and FRIENDSDITTO blah blah blah. IT'S WRONG!!1one!11 blah blah blah. HOW DARE j00!!1 blah blah blah. I was WTF'ing all last night when this shit came up. I guess that tells you all what my number one news source is.
