That's right. With a Gmail extension and LJ Login on Chrome, I see no reason to go back to that whore Firefox.

That's right, Firefox. I called you out. But you know what? You deserved it. Every time I turn around you're having s script error and running as a snail's pace, if you're moving at all, and if I want to watch a video, or work on something in Word at the same time? Heaven forbid. So here I am and good bye to you. I can't stay in this relationship.

/dramatics

Tomorrow I am going to go shopping with my sister and mother, because we're meeting my grandmother (and maybe aunt?) in Iowa City, and watching this showdown is going to be awesome. Because my grandmother is very matchy matchy, department store crap, in colors that can only be described as pastel. My sister... is not. My sister and I are both very much Separates people and then we tend to put them together in ways that don't really match but hope to carry off via our quirky personalities. So this is going to be fun.

I am also subjecting my mother to season three of Heroes, because she suffered through season two so she may as well.

I have been trying to get an exam copy of the textbook I'm supposed to be teaching. Yes, I went ahead and bought a regular copy 'cause I didn't know what else to do, but then I had a thought, since I am an anxiety-riddled twentysomething who is not happy unless she has something to hyperventilate about (as though my discovered money troubles of yesterday weren't enough): what if there is stuff I NEED in the exam copy? So I tried again to order the book, except their website has a malfunction. It won't let me list my appropriate department at SB. So I decided to contact support which, it turns out, I CAN'T DO because every time it fails to connect.

ARGH.

I'm pretty lucky, because as far as the money thing goes, I have a family that's not going to let me founder into crippling penury. I said I wanted to be a dramaturg and they said, "Awesome! I have no idea what that is, but go for it!" And I said, "Neither do I! But I guess we'll find out!" Fuck this. I give up. You win, life.

Agh too much shit to do already.

I got an e-mail back from Microsoft about my failed updates -- two keep failing to install and until my computer is up to date I can't register on the school network, which is a pain in my rear. But it was a "we're working on it, don't panic" response rather than anything helpful, so thanks, Microsoft.

I stayed up until four in the morning reading Agincourt by Bernard Cornwell. I love his Warlord Trilogy, which was a historical retelling of the Arthurian legend (and starts with the book The Winter King and you all should READ IT NOW) and I have his Holy Grail series to start on next. I love this man's historical fiction. It's gritty, and in Agincourt one of the things I loved about it is that while there was a romantic subplot, I would say that romantic was a very strong word for it. It was matter-of-fact and real, just a part of the life this character was leading. It wasn't soppy, it wasn't melodramatic, in places I would even argue that I wanted more, but I would venture to say that because I loved the characters.

I mean. The last time I stayed up curled in bed for hours to read a book was... okay it was Stephenie Meyer's The Host but while still not exactly great literature, I think that book is in many ways superior to her Twilight books, and just as addictive. The time before that, it was Storm of Swords. So yeah. it takes a lot to keep me up reading.

1. I can be a small person in the worst way.

2. Housing said someone's going to be moving in here with me. I have no idea who or when, so who knows. When I come back from work tomorrow I just might have a roommate again. Me no likey.

3. I got back from the city last night about 11:30 and there was a note on my door saying that the locks on my door had been changed so I had to go exchange my key. Except of course the office was closed at that hour, so I had to go to the RA on duty and she let me in with the master key.

4. The ceiling in my kitchen is still leaking, almost a week later.

5. The people who have my computer to repair it said they were going to probably call on Tuesday to tell me what was wrong with it. Tuesday came and went and I still haven't heard from them. I'm beginning to get annoyed.

6. I need a nap. Is it too late for a nap?

Grr this is not my week for technology.

1. Saturday my computer would not boot, and also the monitor flickered out a couple of times. Eventually I was able to reinstall Vista. Monitor did not give me any more trouble that night.
2. Sunday my monitor problem persisted and the longest it's stayed on is about an hour, although I've been trying to turn it on today to get some things off it and so far, no dice. I get thirty seconds at most. [livejournal.com profile] thinkatory thinks it might be the video card or the backlight (my money's on the backlight as the flickering is usually accompanied by a sizzling sound which I take to be a wire or some such somewhere).
3. I called Dell this afternoon and they were like, yeah, we can send you materials to send it to us and then charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege. I politely declined, so I have the names and locations of a place I am going to take it in the city when I'm there on Wednesday.
4. So in the meantime I'm on my mini machine (if I didn't tell you about my mini machine, it's because I have been effing busy. I haven't even named it yet) and I apparently have a piece of adware that not only opens random IE pop up windows when I'm in Firefox, but it redirects google search results to random, irrelevant websites and parked domains.

*facepalm*

I think the internet was just sarcastic with me.

I've been having issues with being able to download things from MegaUpload (I put in the letters to get to the actual download page but then the connection times out and I never see a single download page, and Flash Get ain't getting me shit), so I decided to try Open DNS to see if that would solve my problems. But then I couldn't browse ANYTHING, period. So of course, Firefox gives me this lovely message:

Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.

Seriously, Internet? I mean, SERIOUSLY? YOU WANT TO SASS ME?

AHAHAHAHA My sister and her friends in the Doctor Who club at Coe are SO much cooler than the Coe Witches.

For April Fool's Day they gained entrance to all the buildings on campus and used dry erase markers to write BAD WOLF on all available surfaces, and put 'badwolf' as the username in lab computers. LOVE. She says next year they are putting up 'Vote Saxon' posters.

My sister is one of the coolest people I know.

That aside, today was a good day. I was up at stupid o'clock for the job interview, and it went pretty good. They're at the beginning of the interview process so it could be another week or two before I hear anything. Mom and I went to CR to fetch Gretchen for Easter, and that was pretty much it.

I had to change my shirt for church tonight, mom didn't think that the Community Party t-shirt was appropriate for a Good Friday service. And she is probably right.

I'm contemplating a layout change.

I wonder if I took the time to tally the number of users who hate the new LJ profile page (being one of them) as seen in [livejournal.com profile] news and [livejournal.com profile] lj_design, and found it to be something approaching a percentage of their users, they would listen.

I doubt it.

So if you use Gmail, this is worth checking out.

I watched Untraceable last night which I took from work on the suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] thinkatory and wow. Wow. That's a freaky movie. But scary and kind of true. Not only is it a good thriller, but at the very end there's kind of a punch about what we as the internet will just download and watch without even thinking about it. And that's all I will say.

Oh, that and Colin Hanks not only looks startlingly like his dad, the eminent Tom Hanks, but sounds like him too.

So I have these files that aren't letting me delete them, and I remembered a program that I used to have where I could choose to have the files deleted next time I restarted Windows. I can't remember the name of it, I'm not sure if it's still installed on Lolita, and my Google-fu skills aren't up to par today. Can anyone help?

ETA: NEVER MIND. I found something that works. Unlocker, if you're curious.

Okay, last night I was annoyed but now I'm angry. *points to the moods to prove it*

If Firefox will not load pages, and none of the suggestions on the website or in the forums I can find helps, how am I supposed to work?

Also, we had a period about three weeks ago where it thunderstormed every day or there was a tornado watch or warning, or both, and the internet stayed steadfast through it all. So why is it now, that when the weather is PERFECT, it goes in and out willy nilly?

I probably wouldn't be so annoyed if I was one of those people who had a life, but, you know. People who have lives always seem so uppity.

ETA: Things have so far improved (slightly) since I am trying Open DNS, which was the one thing that I hadn't tried. So we'll see.

When I first tried, my internet didn't work (argh) but then [livejournal.com profile] roseanna fixed it by methods yet unknown to me. She's just that good.

I don't have to do anything until noon tomorrow because I was exempt from the writing sample. ::dance:: Yay for sending in something for the writing scholarship and stuff. Hooray.

And. I brought a lot of crap. That is all.

My church is going to be getting a new pastor sometime around the end of June or beginning of July. I'm going to miss Pastor John. He's been so important to me in my spiritual growth. We're very like minded (he didn't like the surprise death in Order of the Phoenix either), and despite being slightly under three times my age, is a good friend. His new church, however, is only about half an hour from where I will be going to college, so who knows? I might pop over and see him sometimes.

It's still very sad, though. :(

Also we found out why my computer won't connect to the internet. It's not my computer, it's the company. Apparently our agreement with GMTel says that we can't have file sharing programs, and I had Imesh on my computer, they found out about it (although don't ask me how), and shut off our internet. So I had to take it off and we have to call in on Monday to get our internet turned back on.

It sure would have been nice to know that beforehand. I wouldn't have put Imesh on my computer if I had known that I would have gotten the internet shut off. Jeez.

About five seconds after I told [livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida that I wished my cell phone to ring and for it to be Jacob, my cell phone did ring, but it was my mother. Feh.

I think the first thing I'll do when I have internet back on my computer is make a new layout.
