Ranty McRant

I got a comment today from a suggestion I made on the [livejournal.com profile] broadway group (and I know, I should take it with a grain of salt especially given how limited their grip on basic grammar is), but this was the reply to my suggestion of the song "I Remember" for a mezzo (Emily sang it at her recital and it's basically been on my brain ever since):

i wouldnt do i remember on an audition. it gets very boring very fast.

Now, speaking from a directorial point of view, I would say that songs don't get boring - actors make them boring. It is an actor's job in an audition to make the director and whoever else is sitting at the table (of men, always men - usually gay!) to sit up and take notice of them. It's the actor's job to stand up in front of them and find something new in that song every damn time they sing it and make it exciting for me. Because quite frankly if they can't do it in an audition, I don't want to cast them to do it for eight shows a week.

Also, what is up with moderators complaining about people not taking part in icon or fic challenges? Do these people not have finals? Papers? Projects? Packing? (That's an awful lot of P's in one place.) Not to mention it's just damn discouraging when it's the same people who win time after time after time. And it doesn't exactly inspire me to participate.

Now back to Uncle Vanya and history.

Who've been sitting like I have and listening all day to 200 girls singing as high as they can!

People who say '___ gets boring fast' have a) never actually sat on an audition panel, and b) are merely looking for an excuse to vent about how much they dislike something.
Ergo, they suck a hell of a lot.

(As a sidenote, when people don't mention the show they're auditioning for/general style, at least, it drives me nuts. It's impossible to give the best rec.)

(PS - You said audition, and I started humming L5Y. We're pro.)

:D We're winnars.

And gee your icon's hot, who made that? *whistles*

WOAH. THAT IS AMAZING.
Liz, stop stealing my icon resources! XD ♥♥♥

Well the girl was just looking for some new stuff to work on since I guess she was just looking for fresh material for the purpose of auditioning. Agh.

Mm, that's fair enough, then. If it's general, than any song for her range is fair game.

*sighs*
That is exactly how I will spend my next two weeks. All those P's....

HAHAHA oh wow. I love you? Anyone who can reference Last 5 Years is my hero.

I love L5Y. Especially that song - it pretty much describes any audition I've ever had. Which is why I'm switching to directing and stage managing. It's a lot less stressful on the other side of the table - at least, a different kind of stress.
