So, I went with
kay_cricketed and a few of our friends (incl. Susan, who will probably be referenced). If you are familiar with my style of reviewing, it's not very organized and I tend to forget a lot of things and add them to my squeeing with subsequent entries. So let the games begin.
I think I love everything about this movie. Seriously. Well, okay... erm...
The opening is great. Barty, the rich little bastard, kept going, "That sounds like fun, I get to do that?" and I want him to shut up. The interposition of the tea kettle as a scream was a good bit, and I get chills everytime I see the Riddles' tombstone. Thehorcrux snake was good, very creepy.
QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP. Oh man, I want to go. Seriously. I wish we could have gotten a little playing out of it, but cuts must be made. :\ The Dark Mark... scary, dudes. I can say that I would not want to come home to that, ever.
I thought the acting from everyone was great. I loved Brendan Gleeson, that man was brilliant. He always is, though, so it was expected. Clemence Poesy and whoever it was playing Gabrielle are just angels of perfection. I hope Rupert Grint's not too old to do chick flicks by the time they get done with these films, because I'll be damned if he doesn't have 'awkward but adorable hero' written all over him. Emma's performance, as usual, I can take or leave, but she has her high points. I was feeling the Neville love, especially when they were in the Defense Class! That boy needs love and muffins. :( David Tennant was appropriately bastardly and evil, although like with the Marauder's Map at the end of PoA, I was dissapointed by the lack of resolution on that part. Barty said he was find with it, and I told him to shut up again. At some points I think that Oliver and James weren't doing so much acting as being themselves -- their fight in the Great Hall after trying to fool the age line is fabulous. Katie Leung was SO CUTE as Cho, although there was one bastard not too far down from me in the theatre who said, "An Asian chick with a Scottish accent. ::scoff::" Well, HELLO. If she's born in Scotland, raised in Scotland, SHE'S GOING TO HAVE A SCOTTISH ACCENT. -.- I hate people sometimes.
... And Robert Pattinson needs to do me and give me beautiful children with knee-weakening grins. The end.
This was a very fast-paced movie, which I liked. It had to be fast-paced in order to fit everything in that it needed to, but it worked out in the end.
The FERRET SCENE. Oh god. What is there to say about the ferret scene. Hands down one of the funniest things I've ever seen. And I like that the McGonagall/Moody dialogue was kept word for word out of the book, I think. It was BRILLIANT. It was just... New Comedy style that worked. It was brilliant.
The Defense Class was a great scene, too, and I think
artful_doge felt like he was back in Auror training for a bit (although he claims Moody told him exactly where he could put that gum), and this was a great scene for everybody. The point with the spiders was made greatly, I think, and I just wanted to give Neville a hug. :( :( :( :( :( Seriously. So bad. There was a neat cinematography bit when the camera focused on the AK'd spider, and then refocused on Harry. That sort of thing and 360-rail shots are my favorite things in the movies.
The Pensieve/Courtroom scene was very well done, although the movie Barty was a bit too close for my resident psychopathish, bastardly mad genius for my comfort, I still liked how it was done.
timefornothing was a bit annoyed at his lack of mention, but I suppose we can't have it all, right Alex? (Alex: ::rollseyes:: ::lights a fag::) Right.
The Yule Ball was great! It was like prom, but better (which I first typed as better) because I got to watch and didn't have to feel awkward. (Sidenote: Didn't like that TPTB put Padma in Gryffindor with Parvati, BECUZ WE KNOW TWINZ R EXACTLEE THE SAME!!1!! ::rollseyes::) Roger, of course, took time to say, "Damn, I look good," and then thought about how Fleur looked good, and I told him to watch his mouth because he has two different long term girlfriends in two different 'verses who are not Fleur Delacour and I would be reporting back to them. He shut up pretty quickly. (But he did look good. And, OMG. SO NOT A MANWHORE, WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT, FANDOM?) Hermione was SO PRETTY, and I don't care that her dress was pinkish. It was a pretty color on her and it worked. Viktor looked pretty pleased with himself with his hot date.I wanted to jump Cedric. I was slightly disappointed with the Last Resort scene, but. :\ I'll get over it, since Ron's "I told you about the dragons" was so great. I even said, "And rocks don't speak," outloud, but apparently no Good Shippers were sitting near me, because I got nothing in return. Harry's look when Hermione said, "To bed! Both of you!" was great. Very much, "._. ... ::not going to argue::"
The First Task was SO TENSE and wonderful. When Viktor told Rita to get out of there, Susan and I said, at the exact same time, "You tell her!" We looked at each other, looked away, and then laughed a bit but WOW was that scary. And poor Cedric looked so frightened when he was about to go and face the dragons. :( Harry's entire bit was... yeah. Phew. Second task was good but slightly less exciting, and Third task... well. The maze changed! HOW IS THAT FAIR? But, yeah. I think Harry should have just let the maze eat Cedric. It would have been saving his life. ;_;
... Taking me to the graveyard scene. Everything about this scene was excellent. Excellent in a very disturbing way. Like Wormtail cutting off his hand? I didn't even see what happened, I cringed and covered my eyes. I probably would have laughed harder when Wormtail just unceremoniously dumped Voldemort in the cauldron if I wasn't still in Cedric Shock. ;_; Crap. Oh jeez. Just. AGHHHHH.
Ralph Fiennes was a great Voldemort. Not hot at all. Which was good. Erm. Maybe I should try this paragraph again.
Ralph Fiennes was a great Voldemort. I appreciate that he actually appears to have read the books from interviews that I've read, and I never doubted for a minute that he was Pure Evil (although not in the DoM sense). He was so cold and devious that it wasn't even a possibility that he wasn't. When he touched Harry I cringed, Harry's scream was more than he'd ever done before, which it had to be. And the Priori Incantatem was great, too. I'll admit to crying when his parents appeared and when Cedric asked him to take his body back.
And, I'll go ahead and say it, I didn't cry when Cedric was killed, I think it happened to fast to let it sink in appropriately at that moment. But when Harry portkeyed back with Cedric's body and the Cup and when he started crying and wouldn't leave him and once everyone realized that Cedric wasn't just laying on the ground but dead, then I cried. And then when his father came down, I sobbed. Melissa did too, and we clung almost as badly as
lostlikealice and I did when we read the words "the Bones murder". I just know that I'm going to randomly think about it in class tomorrow and burst into tears and Dr. Nordmann will be like, "What is wrong with you?" and I won't know how to answer that.
That aside... I felt it. Oh god, did I feel it. Tomorrow (er, later today) I'll get to cling with my sister when we see it. I don't know how I'll feel. Maybe I'll cry more, maybe less. Either way, one thing is for sure: I feel it as acutely as I did when I read it in July of 2001. Almost five years ago. That's nuts.
I digressed again. Oops. What I meant to say is that since I didn't mention Daniel in the paragraph with all the actors above is that I wanted to mention him in conjunction with returning with Cedric's body and the graveyard scene. I think this is by far the strongest acting we've seen from him yet, and with his relative inexperience (the Harry Potter films are his only credit of real consequence), I think this is excellent. I can't wait to see what he does with the rest of his life.
There were moments that I connected with Leviosa, like I always do and always will. When Rookwood was mentioned in the courtroom scene, I muttered, "Bastard," but it was
in_nw_italy, really... well, post-1981, she just kind of holds a wary respect of him, as of 1978. I laughed probably harder than was strictly necessary when Pseudo!Moody mentioned a summer intern of the Department of Mysteries that never came back. And I died. (
in_nw_italy exited stage left, and
stokesofgenius began panicking and fretting about being fired and then excused himself to have a fag or six.) And just... there are things that I will always connect with Leviosa, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all. I consider my experience enriched because of it. (I think we need to up the ante.)
Relatedly, how much of a dork am I to look for minor characters amongst the extras? I looked for
theonlykatie and
nataliemcdonald, but apparently the movie makers think that a Slytherin and a Gryffindor standing next to each other will negate their existences (Katie: ::CLINGS TO NATALIE BFF OMG!!123!!!::). I looked for
jonesingon and a
level6prefect but came up with no appropriately shy or geeky looking kids. (Sorry, Anthony, but. You know.) Although we DID get Eloise Midgen. And the Eloise in my head has one finger for Ron and he can stick his up his arse. (Her words. Not mine.)
And then of course there were great MST moments. When Harry mentioned something like, "I'm a ________, not a piece of meat!"
kay_cricketed muttered, "I beg to differ." (I think she's currently on a quest for Harry/Cedric. Point her in that direction?) Gosh, I can't even remember some of the others. When someone refers to Harry with, "As of this moment he is... ... ... ... ... a contestant" I tried to fill in the blank with "Seventeen? Fangirls of the world unite!" I don't remember. MEL, DO YOU REMEMBER ANY? ADD THEM SO PEOPLE CAN READ THEM 'CAUSE THERE WERE LOTS OF FUNNY MOMENTS.
Filch running through the Great Hall pretty much made the entire $9 worth it. I can now imitate the run and make Susan laugh whenever I wish it. :D Susan wants to blow up Hufflepuffs though, which makes
alex_bones cry. I told her that and she said, "That's your problem," and I could only respond, "Boy, is it ever. >_>"
So, that's about all I've got for now. I might come up with something else mention worthy tomorrow night after I see it with my brother and sister, but for now, I'll leave it at this. I'll mention it then.
And Robert Pattinson still needs to do me, dangit.

AGREED.
I looked for Katie and Natalie
HAHAHA I SAW SOMEONE AND WAS ALL 'HEY THAT COULD BE NATALIE'. XD Nice.
I had the hardest problem with the Priori Incantatem. But we all know why. *looks at Limes* It was Bad.
The Filchrun. I LOVED IT. I think our best moment, though - well, there were a few:
--(Krum walks down the stairs at the Ball and takes Hermione's hand.) 'Wow, what a gentleman.' 'Wow, what a paedophile.'
--(Rita drags Harry into the broom closet.) 'I think that's illegal in most countries, yeah?'
--And Snape knocking heads together. LOVED IT.

Tonight, my mom told my sister if she ever thought of dating someone who was seventeen when she was fourteen, there would be problems. My sister said she was sixteen. XD
And Snape knocking heads together. LOVED IT.
I love British boarding school. XD XD XD
