2003 Meme
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
I had a date. I also voted in a local election. All v. exciting.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think so, and I will.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My friend Heather gave birth to a healthy little baby boy in June, and of course [livejournal.com profile] heidi8

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not close to me, thank God.

5. What countries did you visit?
None.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
A leading role in a play and a nifty LJ layout.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 21 -- OotP, I don't think I need to say more.
October 7 -- 18th birthday, man!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Um? I passed an AP test for college credit, I guess that's something to be happy with.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I guess I'm sort of a dependent person. I need to pay less attention to what others are doing or not doing.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My LJ time. Or it will be once I figure out this layout thing.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven."

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
George Bush's wasn't so much of a surprise, but Rachel and Katie have certainly done their part to make me depressed. Chris's wasn't so hot either, but I'm glad to be rid of him.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Little trifles. I didn't buy anything big.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Order of the Phoenix and Return of the King. Neither let me down. :)(I'm just sad like that...)

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
"Superman" -- Five for Fighting

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder?
I guess overall it's all evened out. I'm a bit happier with something, sadder with others.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. I stopped gaining at the beginning of my junior year (2002) and I've lost 9 pounds.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer. I have some money in the bank.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I would have gone and had some more fun with friends. Maybe gone out and seen more movies.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying over things that I had no control over. Life's too short, I'm never going to get out of it alive anyway.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
::buzzer::

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
I don't think I've ever been in love, but I've definitely hurt to my very bones over some things -- okay, guys. But, it's been memorable.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
General Hospital. I'm hopelessly addicted. M*A*S*H and Golden Girls coming in at a close second.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I try to avoid hate.

26. What was the best book you read?
Hard question. "Redeeming Love", "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", and "Outlander" come to mind. Those were all absolutely mind-blowing books.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Coldplay, Indigo Girls, Counting Crows, and Annie Lennox. I also rediscovered my love for Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, and the Beatles.

28. What did you want and get?
A computer of my own. SQUEE.

29. What did you want and not get?
A boyfriend.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Pirates of the Caribbean, Return of the King (all of the LOTR, really), Finding Nemo, Love, Actually, Bend it Like Beckham, and Two Weeks Notice.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 18 this year (!) and on the day I had a nice dinner at a restaurant with my family where the staff sang Happy Birthday (:D). About a week and a half later I had a party at my house where all my friends came and we watched movies. It was fun.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Orlando Bloom. No, really, I would have liked to finish NaNoWriMo or write an ENTIRE fanfic instead of these silly little vignette things which are all I can seem to finish.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Be Comfortable Above All Else, Cute If You Have the Time and Will.

34. What kept you sane?
The idea that college is not all that far away and that I can accomplish anything if I have the motivation to do it.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I agree with [livejournal.com profile] tocomfortyou who said:
Holy SHIT, come here right this second, Dominic Monaghan. RIGHT NOW. Bring Orlando. Christ. *bursts into flames*
Although add Steve Burton, Scott Clifton, and Elijah Wood into the bargain and you've got a deal. :D

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay/lesbian rights, protection of civil liberties, UN effectiveness.

37. Who did you miss?
Joe, when I didn't talk to him all summer.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Lissa, Heather... okay, anyone on my flist, and Jacob.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
"To thine ownself be true, and it follows as night the day, thou canst not then be false to any other man." -- William Shakespeare, Hamlet.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end

...Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away.

...Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again.
-- "Into the West", Annie Lennox

Resolutions for 2004:
1. Keep losing weight -- make a size 14 by prom.
2. Graduate with a 3.5, and keep grades up my first semester in college.
3. Get more involved with everything.
4. Finish at least 2 full length fics -- any fandom.
5. Maintain my work on untitled novel.
