dramaturgy | (no subject)

Despite my wish to quit life, the universe has said, "Whoa, Liz. The game isn't over yet."

I woke up this morning (okay, noon, but I don't work today and I was up doing absolutely fuck all on the internet), crawled in and out of the shower, and then sat down to check my e-mail. I have an e-mail from the lady who heads the program I applied for at Brooklyn College, bam, she wants to set up a phone interview. In my state of COMPLETE AND UTTER SHOCK I begin to putter around the house, wandering back to my computer every now and then to answer IMs from

thinkatory and

sleepyjeans to assure them I haven't died of the shock. So I go out to get the mail, and there are two letters from Columbia and SUNY. The OTHER two schools I haven't heard from.

They were small letters, and I thought okay, they don't send small letters to people who they've accepted. But I open them anyway and Columbia told me no (fine), but SUNY outright offered me admission. MORE SHOCK.

Then I started crying because a) something is finally going right, b) New York is a long ways away, and c) I am on the rag so everything is making me cry (but no migraines this month yet!). And I finally calm down because of those two Brooklyn is my first choice (I haven't heard very complimentary things about SUNY's program, but it's on Long Island so I thought a little New York was better than no New York) and, dude, they haven't offered me anything yet. As usual, I'm getting ahead of myself.

And then I started laughing like a complete loon because I realized I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY. SUNY offered partial tuition scholarship at the in-state rate and they'll help me establish residency but I STILL DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY AND I STILL ONLY HAVE ONE JOB AND I'M CRAP AT MONEY. LOOOL oh god I'm starting again. Hysteria, god I'm having fun.

I need a hug.

Now. About the money. Partial tuition is no small potatoes, especially if it's an MA program. Many folks (me included) get squat for their MAs. Then, you're probably guaranteed up to $20k per year in subsidized government loans, depending on the participation of the schools. The money is the most stressful part of the whole stupid crapfest, but you'll be able to work through it, I'm sure. <3 One million congratulations to you.

SUNY Stony Brook? Because I live 15 minutes from there! And also there's a LIRR train that stops at the school and you're 1 hr into the city (and believe me it can take an hour by MTA public trans to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan) so really it's not too bad and Stony Brook is a beautiful area.

Yay! Congrats about your acceptance!

And if this is SUNY Stony Brook, then, bear in mind you'll still be an hour and a half from NYC. But hey, I've had another fandom friend who works there (though she's leaving in May), and we still totally got to hang out and do crazy antics in the city.

And Brooklyn College is a better location, city-wise obviously.

But yays!
