I've decided that I really don't like the new pastor at my church. It's not that he's not a nice guy or anything like that. He is, indeed, very nice and he's done some good things: like the use of puppets in the children's sermon. It's funny and the kids like it.

But there are some things I don't like. For instance today he showed the congregation a sweatshirt that had a little logo with the red cardinal and a cross and "DeWitt United Methodist Church" and said you didn't have to buy one, but it was a good way to go about town as if to say "I'm a Methodist, and I'm darn proud to be one!" His words.

Um. I'm no scholar when it comes to the Bible, but I do definitely remember Christ saying something about not flaunting our Christianity or something to that effect. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I just don't like it.

Not to mention his sermons are just... boring to listen to. Lackluster. I don't feel engaged. To quote one of my favorite fictional characters, "Oratory should raise your heart rate." Maybe I was spoiled with Pastor John, one of the most engaging speakers I've ever had the opportunity to listen to. I should roadtrip down to Iowa City one morning to see him.
